Join us for a Saturday dedicated to tradition, memory, and the flavours of home as we learn to bake zhyngalov hats, one of Artsakh’s most cherished dishes. Food carries history; it holds the stories, resilience, and identity of a people. By preparing this recipe together, we honour Artsakh’s cuisine and the generations who kept it alive. The afternoon will unfold in two parts:

• 14:00 – 17:00 - Hands‑on Workshop

For those who want to learn how to make zhyngalov hats from scratch, join us in the kitchen. Feel free to bring your own apron.

• 17:00 - 18:00 - Social break for the workshop team

• 18:00 – Tasting & Community Gathering

If you prefer to simply enjoy this delicious dish and celebrate with the community, arrive at 18:00 for the tasting and social part of the evening.

We will be screening Yes Kgam, a documentary by filmmaker Ani Manukyan that shares the powerful stories of four teenage girls forcibly displaced from Artsakh in 2023.

Following this, there will be an exclusive preview of Nagorno-Karabakh: Portrait of a Homeland, the latest book by Susan Pattie and Gagik Stepan-Sarkissian. Combining striking photography with insightful essays on the region’s history, arts, and everyday life before the 2023 mass exodus, the volume captures the cultural and natural vibrancy of Nagorno-Karabakh/Artsakh from its earliest times to the present.

We are pleased to host this event with the Armenian Institute’s co-founder and founding director, Susan Pattie.
