Librarian (Part-time)
The Armenian Institute is dedicated to the study and promotion of Armenian culture, history, and society. Our library is a key resource for scholars, students, and the wider public, housing a specialist collection of books, periodicals, and archives relating to Armenian studies. Though we are not a lending institution, the full library is available for reference by appointment.

Role Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Part-Time Librarian to support the ongoing development and management of our specialist library. This role is ideal for someone with strong bibliographic skills, familiarity with Armenian language(s) and orthographies, and experience using Library of Congress classification. The successful candidate will work independently one day per week and be responsible for cataloguing, classification, and providing support to library users.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately catalogue new acquisitions and update existing records.
Apply Library of Congress Classification (LCC) to library materials.
Make independent judgements about appropriate class numbers and subject headings.
Maintain and organise the library collection to ensure ease of access.
Support researchers and visitors: respond to enquiries and offer guidance in using library resources.
Assist in developing and improving cataloguing and classification policies.
Collaborate with the Institute team to maintain high standards of collection management.
Occasional participation in planning meetings or training sessions (as required).
Required Skills & Experience
Strong Armenian, with strong familiarity with both orthographies (Classical/Mashtots and Reformed).
Good working knowledge of Library of Congress Classification and subject cataloguing principles.
Good working knowledge of Library of Congress Romanisation system for Armenian.
Ability to make sound independent decisions on allocating class numbers and subject headings.
Practical cataloguing skills; experience with library management systems preferred (training can be provided).
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate effectively with researchers and visitors.
Confidence working independently and managing time effectively.
Desirable
Previous experience working in a library or archive setting.
Familiarity with Armenian Studies as a subject area.
Experience with digital cataloguing tools and library databases.
Training & Support
We are willing to provide training in our catalogue and systems, and support the successful candidate as they integrate into the role.
