Tina Afiyan Breiová
Dance Artist / Movement Director
Tina Afiyan Breiová is a dance artist, movement director, and lecturer of Armenian heritage, based in London. A graduate of P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels and Duncan Centre Conservatory in Prague, she has developed a multidisciplinary practice spanning dance, theatre, film, and circus. Tina approaches movement as a field for rethinking habitual patterns, exploring texture, and expanding the possibilities of thought into action.
Her performance collaborations include internationally renowned artists and companies such as Marina Abramović, Gecko Theatre, Alexander Vantournhout, Roberto Oliván, Thomas Ryckewaert, Milan Tomášik, Cie Willi Dorner, and Cirk La Putyka. In film, she has contributed to projects with directors and artists including Paul Thomas Anderson, Thom Yorke, Damien Jalet, Simon Riechel, Ran Li, and the movement departments of Warner Bros. Pictures, as well as music videos for Laurent Delforge, Joe Connor, and Emile Rafael.
As an independent choreographer, Tina has created award-winning solo work, Shalakho, reimagining the gender narratives of Armenian folklore. In her recent piece, Ruina, inspired by the 1988 Spitak Earthquake, she constructed physical movement structures that explore human interdependence, turning memory into embodiment. This work was partially created in Yerevan and has toured across Europe, Central, and South America. In 2026, she is commissioned to create an interactive XR performance in collaboration with AI specialist Colas Fiszman and sound engineer Laurent Delforge. Tina is also frequently invited to contribute as a movement director to the creations of other artists, shaping the physical storytelling of diverse projects.
Alongside her artistic practice, Tina is a Unit Leader and lecturer at the MA Dance: Performance at London Contemporary Dance School (The Place), a course she co-designed and continues to develop. She is the founder of Axis of Action, an evolving interdisciplinary training and performance methodology shared globally at leading festivals and institutions. Across all her work, she engages movement as a tool for thought, connection, and expression.
“These images illustrate different facets of my practice: solo performance, collaborative ensemble work, and teaching in workshop settings. Across these contexts, I explore movement as a universal language, one that allows us to communicate, connect, and share experience beyond words. Through my work, I aim to create spaces where interdependence and shared presence are tangible—whether in performance or in teaching. As an artist of Armenian heritage, being visible in creative and leadership roles is a way of embodying and sharing my cultural identity, while the sensitivity and texture of movement often draw on sensory memory and the colours, patterns, and rhythms of Armenian culture. Each gesture, structure, and interaction is informed by both personal and collective histories, highlighting how movement can carry meaning, memory, and connection across bodies and generations. ”
