In their moving new collection, Liana Hayrapetyan and Peter Sutton’s distinct voices come together in a heartfelt conversation about time, memory, and homeland. Together they trace Armenia’s turbulent and often tragic history, expressing a deep love for its culture. Their alternating poems—different in style, yet strongly connected—both blur and highlight the lines between past and present.
Come join them online to hear them read some excerpts and talk about their work. In this event, they will also expand the discussion into visual art, and the work of illustration that accompanies their written words.
About the Speakers
Liana Hayrapetyan is an academic and an artist. She co-wrote the award-winning short film Love Zack. Deeply affected by the aftermath of Armenian independence, she wrote her first poems in Armenian and Russian as a teenager. Her paintings have been exhibited in London alongside other Armenian artists.
Peter Sutton is a writer, translator, and editor. His poetry has appeared in journals, his plays have been professionally produced, and his modern verse translation of the medieval poem Piers Plowman by William Langland was published in 2014. He taught English in Armenia during the Soviet period, and has remained a friend of the country ever since.
