Cooking Demonstration and Book Talk with authors Kate Leahy and Ara Zada
***
Join authors Ara Zada and Kate Leahy for an evening of Armenian cooking and conversation around their book, Lavash, the bread that launched 1000 meals. Hear the behind-the-scenes stories of how the authors gathered recipes for the book from 2015 to 2018, overlapping with the Velvet Revolution. Ara and Kate will demonstrate two of their favourite dishes from the book, Jingalov Hats and Lavash-wrapped Trout, to inspire you to add to your repertoire at home.
***
Lavash, the book, is named after the versatile flatbread that is the foundation of nearly every meal in Armenia. This is so true that today it is recognized by UNESCO as an expression of Armenian heritage. In Lavash, the book is a vehicle for sharing the food, history, and culture of Armenia today. It provides recipes not only for how to make the bread at home but also takes readers on a journey through Armenia and Artsakh before the 2020 war. At its core, Lavash is a celebration of breaking bread with friends in an Armenian spirit.

Please note: this time, we have a cooking demonstration, rather than a hands-on workshop. Recipes are provided for everyone to create their own dishes when they wish. We watch the authors and hear them talk about how they created this exciting book, full of context and anecdotes about people and places, as well as delicious food.
