Eva Rafaelyan is an Armenian filmmaker, director and creative producer based in London. Working across fashion film, music videos, art and cinema, her practice explores personal and cultural narratives through a contemporary visual language.

Her work often draws on memory, identity and belonging, weaving cultural codes with fashion, performance and moving image. Moving between narrative and experimental forms, she is interested in exploring the complexity of human emotions and the ways they shape our perception, relationships and sense of self.

She is currently completing her MA in Fashion Film and Digital Production at London College of Fashion, UAL.

Her interest in directing began with her graduation film, Fragility. Initially made as a university project, the film unexpectedly found a life of its own beyond graduation. It was selected for festivals in Berlin and Moscow and later shown at several independent screenings. This experience became an important turning point and led her to pursue directing as her main creative practice.

Her subsequent work, Why Are You Barefoot?, continued this festival journey with a selection at the Berlin Fashion Film Festival. Cultural storytelling has since become central to Eva’s practice. Through her films, she seeks to bring Armenian stories into a contemporary visual context and explore fashion film as a cinematic form capable of carrying narrative, emotion and cultural memory.

Her most recent and personal work, URISH, marks a new chapter in her practice. The film explores fragmented childhood memory, cultural identity and the experience of growing up between different cultures. Drawing from her own Armenian heritage and personal memories, Eva uses fashion, performance and animation to explore the feeling of belonging everywhere and nowhere at once. URISH currently stands at the centre of her practice and reflects the direction she continues to develop as a filmmaker.

Eva is currently working on her MA graduation film, shot in Armenia and set to be showcased at UAL in October. The project is quite different from what she has done before and experiments with digital design and the relationship between sound and image.
